About The Position

The Packer position involves packing the appropriate number of bags into a box and pushing the box down the line. This role requires participation as a member of the team, contributing to ongoing development and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. The individual will coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members and attend appropriate team meetings. A key aspect of this role is fostering team cohesiveness and taking responsibility to identify and resolve issues. The Packer must be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand their role in supporting these systems, including the impact of individual actions and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. This position description is intended to guide activities and is not meant to limit creativity or describe all required work. The role also involves performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Constant standing, bending and twisting at the neck and waist.
  • Simple grasping with the hands.
  • Fine manipulation/feeling with the hands.
  • Pushing/pulling.
  • Reaching at or below shoulder level.
  • Repetitive motion of the shoulders, arms and hands.
  • Use of vision.
  • Lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds.
  • Must have basic math skills.
  • Must display cooperation and teamwork with other employees.
  • Must display reliability.
  • Must display attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to make good decisions.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others and leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Manually pick up bags of product and place them into the box according to customer specification.
  • Make sure each box has the correct number of bags.
  • Manually push the box down the line.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, contributing to team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues.
  • Quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team to resolve issues.
  • Actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and the position’s role in supporting them.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas regarding operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
