About The Position

This position involves the humane placement of live birds onto an overhead conveyor line by manually hanging both of their legs in empty shackles. The role requires compliance with animal welfare guidelines and aims to prevent damage to the poultry. The job also emphasizes teamwork, adherence to company operating systems, and performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives. The work environment is a plant setting with specific physical demands and requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Ability to efficiently work in a plant environment.
• Regularly required to stand, reach and move about the facility.
• Lift up to 15 lbs, repetitively, above shoulders at a rate of up to 25 birds per minute.
• Strenuous physical effort required.
• Constant standing.
• Simple and power grasping of the hands.
• Fine manipulation/feeling with the hands.
• Reaching at, below shoulder level, above shoulder level.
• Repetitive motion of the shoulders, arms and hands.
• Light lifting/carrying.
• Use of vision.
• Work inside a line around loud equipment/machines.
• Walk around drains, footbaths, hoses.
• Work in a wet environment.
• Occasional dust.
• Work in temperatures that can reach up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Use of sanitizable footwear, gloves, apron, hearing protection, hair net(s) and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred experience working around machinery.
• Working knowledge of a processing facility.

Responsibilities

• Manually hang live chickens on shackles by both legs, ensuring no damage to the bird.
• Rotate positions to equalize job responsibilities in the area.
• Comply with all policies or rules established by Simmons on Animal Welfare, including attendance in annual Animal Welfare training.
• Participate as a member of the team, fostering strong cohesiveness and resolving issues.
• Be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity and support these systems.
• Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
