Packaging Designer (Intimate Apparel)

Dreamwear•New York, NY

About The Position

Dreamwear is seeking a mid-level Packaging Designer for its Graphics team, which focuses on consumer product packaging and retail presentation. This is a hands-on packaging design and print production role, with no digital, social media, or marketing graphics responsibilities. The primary focus is packaging for the Shapewear portfolio across Skinnygirl, Juicy Couture, Nautica, Danskin, Nicole Miller, and Marilyn Monroe. The designer will translate product features and technical benefits into clear, compelling, brand-appropriate packaging. The role also has broader ownership of Nautica packaging across additional Dreamwear product categories, helping maintain consistent visual identity and execution. The designer will manage projects from initial concept through final production, including artwork development, dielines, production specifications, proofs, samples, and vendor execution. Work includes physical packaging and retail presentation materials such as hangtags, belly bands, call-out tags, inserts, labels, cartons, and mockups. The role requires collaboration with Product Development, Design, Sales, licensors, factories, and vendors, as well as research into packaging trends and retail presentations. Applicants must provide a portfolio or website demonstrating relevant physical packaging work; applications without packaging examples may not be considered.

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of professional packaging design experience.
  • A portfolio demonstrating physical packaging work, such as packaging systems, hangtags, labels, cartons, belly bands, retail packaging, or comparable consumer product applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Demonstrated experience working with dielines, mechanical artwork, print production, and production-ready files.
  • Understanding of print processes, color, materials, proofs, and technical requirements for taking packaging from design through production.
  • Strong typography, layout, information hierarchy, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to independently own packaging projects, collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners, and incorporate feedback.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and comfort working directly with internal partners and overseas factories or vendors.
  • Working knowledge of packaging, retail, fashion, and consumer trends, with the ability to interpret them across distinct brands.
  • Provide a link to a portfolio or website demonstrating relevant packaging work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing physical packaging for consumer products, ideally in apparel, fashion, beauty, accessories, or another retail product category; other retail or beauty/CPG experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute consumer product packaging and retail presentation materials, including hangtags, belly bands, call-out tags, inserts, labels, cartons, mockups, and other physical packaging components.
  • Own packaging development for the Shapewear portfolio, creating brand-specific solutions for Skinnygirl, Juicy Couture, Nautica, Danskin, Nicole Miller, and Marilyn Monroe.
  • Translate shapewear attributes and benefits, including fit, function, fabrication, compression, and support, into clear packaging communication.
  • Support Nautica packaging across multiple product categories and maintain consistency with brand standards.
  • Manage packaging projects from concept through production, balancing creative execution, technical accuracy, timelines, brand standards, and retailer requirements.
  • Build and adapt artwork to packaging dielines and print specifications; ensure copy, dimensions, callouts, required information, and production details are accurate.
  • Prepare production-ready mechanical files and ensure artwork is properly constructed for print and manufacturing.
  • Review proofs, strike-offs, physical packaging samples, and other production submissions; identify and resolve execution issues before approval.
  • Partner with Product Development, Design, Sales, licensors, and other cross-functional teams to understand product attributes and packaging requirements.
  • Follow brand and licensor guidelines while developing differentiated packaging appropriate for each brand and consumer.
