About The Position

Santa Fe South West Middle School is seeking a passionate and energetic Physical Education Teacher who believes physical education plays a critical role in developing healthy, confident, and successful students. The ideal candidate creates an engaging, structured environment where students develop physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and lifelong healthy habits. Our PE teachers are educators first. They build strong relationships with students while maintaining high expectations, maximizing instructional time, and ensuring every student feels challenged, included, and supported.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate (or ability to obtain certification) with appropriate Physical Education endorsement.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to high expectations and continuous professional growth.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching middle school students.
  • Experience coaching athletics or leading extracurricular activities.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and student engagement strategies.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons that promote lifelong fitness and wellness.
  • Teach students fundamental movement skills, physical fitness concepts, individual and team sports, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Create a safe, organized, and highly structured learning environment that maximizes active participation.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and ensure all students experience success.
  • Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Reinforce perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and positive sportsmanship throughout daily instruction.
  • Establish clear routines, expectations, and procedures that promote safety, respect, and accountability.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students while maintaining consistently high behavioral expectations.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where every student feels valued, encouraged, and motivated to participate.
  • Promote character development through collaboration, goal setting, resilience, and personal responsibility.
  • Supervise students during PE activities while ensuring adherence to all safety procedures and district policies.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
  • Participate actively in weekly coaching meetings, professional development, collaborative planning, and data discussions.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required student records.
  • Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress, participation, and achievements.
  • Support school events, extracurricular activities, and campus initiatives as needed.
