About The Position

Perform work associated with the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of complex protection and control devices and related equipment with limited supervision. Such devices and equipment includes but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers. Additionally, install, maintain and operate all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated P&C communications equipment. Respond to emergency call-outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service to customers as required. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below. Commissioning: AEP FACTS employees serve a key role during new projects assisting with the following: specification development, technical bid review/evaluation, design review, approve prints and other vendor documents, and commissioning the equipment in the field with support from local TFS. Operation and Maintenance: FACTS employees are responsible for providing oversight for local TFS crews in conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on FACTS Devices. This includes completing the annual work plan maintenance as well as field troubleshooting. This position will serve as one of the FACTS P&C field tech in the Western AEP footprint. Supporting the Welsh HVDC Converter and other FACTS devices.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles.
Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
Working knowledge of current, potential, closing and trip circuits.
Working knowledge of material such as cable, lugs, and wire as applied to protective relay and control circuits.
Working knowledge of assembly, anchoring, and interchangeability of the various switchboard panel-support and through systems.
Must have the ability to read, understand, and correct electrical prints and diagrams and the ability to use hand tools.
Must demonstrate the ability to perform duties in an alert, safe, and business-like manner and the ability to deal with customers and other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to interpret, analyze and transmit facts graphically, orally, and in writing clearly and precisely.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

Responsibilities

Coordinate/Schedule the annual FACTS maintenance work plan.
Provide on-site support and assistance necessary for the maintenance and repair of existing FACTS equipment.
Develop maintenance plans, inspection reports, and other documentation to record the maintenance and repair activities of the FACTS fleet.
Support AEP’s documentation plan and record keeping efforts as it relates to the FACTS/HVDC equipment.
Procurement of replacement parts and manage warranty and service contact issues with vendors.
Provide oversite for the installation and commissioning of new FACTS equipment.
Lead in the investigation and remediation of equipment failures and operating events to ensure the reliability of FACTS equipment.
Assist in the evaluation and performance analysis of FACTS equipment.
Support new FACTS project activities from project specification and design through final in-service operation.
Identify process improvement, asset renewal, and operational optimization plans for the existing FACTS devices.
Promote and enforce the Company’s Accident Prevention and Safety & Health Programs.
Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company’s Corporate Compliance Policy.
