About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for team member engagement and the overall operations and financial results of the area. The role leads Leads and Team Leaders and supports team members through recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, development, and succession planning. The Area Leader oversees operational performance, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts, and resolution of team member and customer conflicts. The position also identifies and implements process improvements and upholds Meijer’s culture.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clearly and provide precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

Ensure team members receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and build a diversified pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Engage in candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support their growth within the organization.
Oversee execution of corporate plans and manage products and services to maximize sales and productivity.
Own area budget line items in the P&L and be accountable for area operations and financial results.
Drive safety, compliance, and condition management throughout the store, following all store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of Meijer culture.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
