About The Position

Covenant House Illinois (CHIL) is seeking an Overnight Shift Supervisor to provide critical protection and resources for youth aged 18-24 experiencing homelessness. CHIL offers tailored, wraparound services including shelter, workforce and education programming, clinical case management, and life-skills training. The organization is committed to youth-affirming, supportive, harm reduction, and trauma-sensitive care. With a newly renovated campus and a strategic plan for expansion, CHIL is poised to meet the needs of young people experiencing housing instability and guide them toward sustainable independence.

Requirements

  • Certified Food Service Sanitation issued by the City of Chicago Department of Public Health.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of proven experience in food preparation, restaurant, or cafeteria service.
  • Understanding of and ability to prepare diets from Latin, African American, and Kosher cultures.
  • Experience working with youth, preferably in a residential setting.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures.
  • Approachable, relatable, builds rapport well, and practices active listening with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds, embracing differences in behavior and lifestyle choices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to accommodate a wide range of physical activity, including but not limited to lifting bags or boxes up to 40 pounds, required to stand, kneel or climb stairs, carry large pots full of hot food.
  • Pass federal, state, and local background check investigations.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Full inoculation with COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise overnight shift operations, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents, addressing their immediate needs and concerns.
  • Implement and enforce agency policies and procedures during the overnight shift.
  • Respond to emergencies and critical incidents in a calm and effective manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of shift activities.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Conduct regular checks of the facility to ensure security and a safe living environment.
  • Facilitate resident engagement in program activities and life skills development.
  • Assist residents with daily living tasks as needed.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, particularly common areas and resident rooms.
  • Transport residents or supplies using agency or personal vehicles as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Administration and Operations or other management.
