The Overnight Residential Counselor works in the GRIP Program, a group home treatment setting for adolescents specializing in trauma-informed care. GRIP provides 24-hour comprehensive care with clinical, nursing, and direct care staff. The counselor helps create a safe and therapeutic community, supports clients in developing effective coping strategies, and role-models those strategies. The role also helps clients build life skills—including cooking, banking, and vocational skills—and develop a sense of self and skills for their next steps. The counselor must remain awake throughout the overnight shift to ensure clients’ safety and wellbeing. The position may involve mandated overtime, and evening, holiday, and weekend shifts may be required. JRI provides training in physical interventions and verbal de-escalation.
