Residential Counselor - Overnight
About The Position
Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is hiring an Overnight Residential Counselor for its Young Adult Program in Somerville. The role supports youth and residents in a residential setting, with coverage scheduled Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. No college degree is necessary. The organization describes a warm work environment with team-focused management and an emphasis on healthy work dynamics. The Residential Counselor directly supervises and engages with youth in activities and daily routines, helps them build skills through teamwork, and provides positive role modeling. The counselor helps maintain program structure, supports clients’ basic needs, and may transport clients and administer medication after MAP certification. Training is provided in several therapeutic approaches and safety certifications.
Requirements
- Must be available to work overnight shifts and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license required; motor vehicle background record checks will be completed.
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to connect with others, be approachable and respectful, and communicate at all levels.
- Reflective self-awareness.
- Ability to manage risk.
- Ability to support youth dynamically.
- Flexibility and creative thinking, including the ability to adapt to changing work situations, processes, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and engage with youth and residents in activities and daily routines.
- Support skill building for youth and residents through collaborative teamwork.
- Participate in trainings and maintain necessary certifications.
- Facilitate recreational activities and work with the staff team to maintain program structure.
- Provide positive role modeling for youth.
- Transport clients safely.
- Administer medication once MAP certified.
- Help provide clients with regular meals, a safe and clean living environment, recreational activities, and appropriate hygiene.
Benefits
- Sign-on bonus, with half paid after 6 months of employment and half after 1 year of employment; prorated for part-time.
