Residential Counselor - Overnight
About The Position
Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is hiring an Overnight Residential Counselor for its Young Adult Program in Somerville, Massachusetts. The counselor works directly with youth and residents, supporting their safety, daily routines, skill development, and participation in program activities. The role includes overnight coverage on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. No college degree is necessary. Wayside provides training in several approaches and certifications, including Motivational Interviewing, Courageous Conversations, the Attachment, Regulation and Competency Model (ARC), trauma-informed practice, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, CPR, and First Aid.
Requirements
- Availability to work overnight shifts and weekends.
- Valid driver's license; motor vehicle background record checks will be completed.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to connect with others, be approachable and respectful, and communicate across levels.
- Reflective self-awareness.
- Ability to manage risk.
- Ability to support youth dynamically.
- Flexibility and creative thinking, including adapting to changing work situations, processes, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and engage with youth and residents in activities and daily routines.
- Support skill building for youth and residents through collaborative teamwork.
- Participate in training and maintain necessary certifications.
- Facilitate recreational activities while working with the staff team to maintain program structure and provide positive role modeling.
- Transport clients safely and administer medication once MAP certified.
- Help provide clients with basic needs, including regular meals, a safe and clean living environment, recreational activities, and appropriate hygiene.
