About The Position

The Overnight Grocery Clerk provides exceptional customer service and helps maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming store environment. The role supports the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals and maintaining quality assurance standards. The clerk embodies the Customer 1st strategy and the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. Responsibilities include assisting customers with grocery products, checking freshness, labeling and stocking merchandise, maintaining food safety and temperature standards, and reporting discrepancies, maintenance needs, accidents, and safety concerns. The position requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
• Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create a welcoming customer environment by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
• Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions and make suggestions.
• Recommend grocery items and inform customers of specials.
• Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise, including providing fresh products customers have ordered.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
• Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
• Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate manager of repair needs.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
• Perform the essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
