The Overhead Distribution Foreman works on fiber, communications, and similar de-energized lines and equipment, under the direction of the general foreman and/or division manager. The role provides field supervision for crews installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electric distribution and service lines and related equipment. Working around high-voltage energized lines and equipment is identified as a critical job hazard. Work includes pole change-outs, DACR, VVO, and reconductor work. The foreman is responsible for crew safety, job briefings, job safety analysis, and coordination of materials, equipment, and manpower. The role requires outdoor work in varied terrain and weather, pole climbing and work at heights, strenuous physical activity, operation of tools and a service truck, and on-call availability after working hours as needed. Crews may work 40–60 hours per week, and overtime, storm work, and travel for training may be required.
