About The Position

This role involves performing scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of lifting equipment including overhead cranes, monorails, hoists, and jib cranes. The technician will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, replace components, and troubleshoot electrical systems. The position also includes assisting with installations, upgrades, and modernization projects, as well as performing load testing and operational verification. Accurate documentation of services, findings, and customer communication are key aspects of the role. Safety procedures, including OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and fall protection, must be strictly followed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in crane, hoist, industrial maintenance, electrical, or related technical field.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Able to work independently and manage service schedules effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with overhead cranes, wire rope hoists, chain hoists, and material handling equipment.
  • Industrial maintenance, millwright, electrician, or controls experience.
  • NCCCO Crane Inspector Certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • NFPA 70E Training.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME B30 standards and CMAA specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled inspections of overhead cranes, monorails, hoists, jib cranes, and related lifting equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and customer requirements.
  • Identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components and recommend corrective actions.
  • Complete OSHA and ASME required inspections and documentation.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural issues.
  • Repair and replace motors, brakes, gearboxes, contactors, relays, limit switches, controls, VFDs, wire rope, chains, hooks, and other crane components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including single-phase and three-phase power systems.
  • Perform emergency service calls and equipment repairs to minimize customer downtime.
  • Assist with crane and hoist installations, upgrades, and modernization projects.
  • Install and wire electrical controls, festoon systems, pendant controls, and radio remote systems.
  • Perform load testing and operational verification following installations and repairs.
  • Complete detailed service reports and inspection records.
  • Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and project updates to customers and management.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, and equipment used.
  • Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and company safety procedures.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) before beginning work.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Properly use all required PPE.
