Under direct supervision, the Outside Sales Representative represents the company at customer sites, providing sales and customer service. The role supports sales by gathering information about customer needs and design specifications for technical staff and serving as a liaison between customers and company teams. Most daily activities take place away from the employer’s place of business, making sales calls and obtaining orders or service and product contracts. Sales commissions may or may not be available. The representative builds knowledge of sales techniques, the industry, company products and services, and relevant policies and procedures. Initially, the employee accompanies experienced Outside Sales Representatives or the Sales Manager on customer calls. As experience and knowledge grow, the representative participates in the sales process, collects customer and design information, coordinates with technical/design and production staff, develops and delivers presentations, and prepares customer quotes. Work during the learning phase is reviewed and approved by a senior representative or Sales Manager. The role has no supervisory responsibilities. Work takes place in both typical office environments and outdoor locations, including customer sites, with exposure to changing temperatures and weather. The work involves driving to customer locations and may include walking on uneven ground at potential construction sites. The employee must frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
