CAMBA’s Cure Violence Program works with at-risk youth ages 16–24 who are or may have been involved in street violence, as well as community residents, businesses, and community-based organizations. Using a public health strategy, the program seeks to reduce and prevent shootings and killings in a designated Brownsville, Brooklyn, hot spot within the 73rd Precinct. Its work includes mediating conflicts that could lead to gun violence, changing the thinking of people most at risk of becoming victims or perpetrators, and partnering with local organizations to promote the message that shooting is unacceptable. The Outreach Worker builds and maintains professional, confidential relationships with clients; recruits clients through street outreach and community marketing; supports community responses to shootings; and helps organize and facilitate social and peer-support events. The role also includes client intake, assessment, file maintenance, referrals, advocacy, progress monitoring, documentation, and reporting. The worker may also schedule or accompany clients to appointments and help them apply for benefits and entitlements. This position is based at 1667 Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212, and reports to the Assistant Program Manager. The schedule is flexible and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed. Compensation is $30.03 per hour. The role requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and a commitment to supporting families of youth affected by gun-related trauma.
