About The Position

The Outreach and Engagement Officer ensures that the Eeyou Eeyou EcoFund is visible, accessible, and responsive across Eeyou Istchee. Serving as the primary contact for project proponents, this role provides support during intake, assists with applications, and monitors report requirements. The incumbent balances community-focused responsibilities such as outreach, workshops, engagement and promotion with project support tasks, including tracking deadlines, aiding execution, ensuring reporting compliance, and preparing summaries.

Requirements

  • College degree in communications, community development, project management, finance administration or related field; OR equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years in outreach, communications, or grants/program coordination.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) required.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to guide applicants through project submission, execution, and reporting processes.
  • Strong organizational skills (event planning, record-keeping, reporting).
  • Knowledge of grant administration and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams).
  • The position occasionally requires travelling.
  • Flexibility to adapt to Cree cultural and seasonal calendars.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Indigenous governance and northern/remote contexts is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Cree and/or French is an asset.
  • Familiarity with outreach and design tools (social media, visual design) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead outreach initiatives to raise awareness of Eeyou EcoFund opportunities within Cree communities.
  • Create and adapt promotional materials (flyers, presentations, social media content, newsletters) to maximize visibility and accessibility.
  • Plan and deliver workshops, information sessions, and training programs, both in-person and online.
  • Coordinate communications efforts (web, social media, radio, print) in collaboration with ERWD Communications staff.
  • Maintain an up-to-date directory of community contacts, partners, and local organizations.
  • Support communities throughout the project lifecycle, including application submission, implementation monitoring, and reporting compliance.
  • Design and implement communication plans and strategies for community engagement.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with Cree communities, organizations, key stakeholders, and external consultants to support project success.
  • Respond to inquiries and guide applicants through eligibility requirements and application processes.
  • Offer practical guidance on budgets, deliverables, and compliance standards.
  • Monitor and track applications to ensure fairness, transparency, and adherence to guidelines.
  • Provide ongoing support to project proponents during implementation, including advice on deliverables, reporting tools, and compliance obligations.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with Chiefs, Councils, and Cree organizations.
  • Represent the CNG and promote the Eeyou EcoFund at community events, workshops, and meetings.
  • Collaborate with external partners (NGOs, universities, funders) to strengthen the visibility and impact of the Eeyou EcoFund.
  • Ensure all communications are professional and culturally respectful.
  • Monitor project reporting timelines and provide reminders and support to proponents.
  • Review submitted reports for completeness and accuracy before forwarding to the Manager.
  • Track and document outreach and intake activities, ensuring data is captured to inform program improvements.
  • Gather and incorporate community feedback to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of the Eeyou EcoFund.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of applications, agreements, budgets and reports.
  • Input data into project tracking tools and prepare dashboard summaries.
  • Contribute to drafting internal updates (quarterly/annual reports, impact reporting).
  • Support the Manager in any other related tasks as needed.
