About The Position

Hively has been serving Alameda County families since 1976, supporting them through child care stipends and referrals, family resource navigation, parent education classes, and clinical mental health services. Our mission is to create meaningful connections with families and communities, ensuring access to resources every child in Alameda County needs to thrive. Our vision is to transform the lives of children and families to benefit all communities and ensure a promising future for generations to come. Hively’s presence around Alameda County is growing, with our Hive on Wheels (Mobile Resource Center) and tabling events accounting for more than 120 events in the last fiscal year. The Marketing, Communications and Development Team is ready to welcome a new team member to support our outreach, community engagement and communications efforts. This role is part of our Marketing, Communications and Development team and is mainly an external facing role to represent Hively at community events, supporting the Hive on Wheels program, and community engagement work. In this role, you'll be the friendly face of Hively, being an active part of our community events that are engaging, well-organized, and welcoming for families, children and other community stakeholders. Please note that many of our events occur in the evenings and/or on weekends, so the schedule for this role will often vary, with work frequently performed outside of normal business hours (flex hours are planned).

Requirements

  • A Passion for Community: You have an interest in community engagement, social services, or early childhood education.
  • Previous Experience: 2+ years of work experience in event planning and execution, community engagement, communications or marketing.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: You're comfortable talking to people and building rapport quickly.
  • Highly Organized: You're dependable and detail-oriented with an eye for design aesthetic; you are able to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: You're comfortable working in a mobile, outdoor setting with a variable schedule.
  • Physical Requirements: You're able to lift up to 30 lbs and assist with event setup and breakdown.
  • Driving Experience: You have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and are comfortable driving a 22-foot Ford Transit Van.
  • Bilingual Skills (Spanish): Spanish proficiency is required.

  • Experience working with children is also a plus.
  • Experience with Children: You enjoy working with children and are willing to serve as the Hively Bee Mascot would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Event Logistics: Manage all aspects of Hive on Wheels and tabling events, from liaising with host organizations to promoting events and handling pre- and post-event checklists.
  • Research and secure events across Alameda county: Find mission aligned events that will allow us to meet outreach and community engagement goals.
  • Manage Supplies: Ensure the van is fully stocked with essential consumables (diapers, clothing, print materials). You'll also be responsible for packing up and recharging electronics after each event.
  • Setup and Breakdown: Efficiently set up and take down all event materials, displays, and activities.
  • Engage with the Community: Greet families, collect survey responses, distribute materials, and answer questions about Hively's services with warmth and professionalism.
  • Facilitate Activities: Lead or assist with fun, kid-friendly activities. Be our Hively Bee Mascot when needed.
  • Build Relationships: Proactively identify and connect with community leaders and partners at events, and share introductions with senior leadership following events.
  • Capture and Share Content: Take photos and videos at events and post to social media following our guidelines.
  • Support Reporting: Assist with post-event reporting, including data entry, creating quantitative reports, and sharing qualitative stories from events.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders: Work closely with Hively staff, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Communications Support (20%): Assist with a variety of organizational needs including WordPress updates, Canva designs, printing, swag orders and more.
  • Online Outreach (10%): Update and maintain online platforms such as: Facebook groups, Instagram and other platforms.
