About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is responsible to provide short term outpatient therapy to adults determined to have psycho‑social problems which impede adequate functioning in one or more of the following areas: school, work, community, family, interpersonal relationships. The Outpatient Therapist is responsible for delivery of direct and indirect service units consistent with qualitative and quantitative performance goals and standards established for short term Outpatient services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or psychology with current Michigan licensure or certification as a LMSW, LLP or LPC.
  • Experience in clinical assessment and providing short‑term outpatient therapy to emotionally impaired adults using individual, group and family modalities preferred.
  • Ability to work in a complex, detail-oriented, deadline structured, busy organization.
  • Frequent lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to hear.
  • Frequent standing/walking going up and down stairs due to community outreach basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and/or phone.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret information.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain consumer charts/records.
  • Ability to remain impartial during investigative procedures.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Ability to conduct patient assessments and treatment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and such other applications if/when required.
  • Ability to be trained and successfully complete other computer training as required.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance and driving record determined by the Authority’s insurance carrier to be eligible for coverage if required as part of positions duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses needs of people with intellectual/developmental disability, mental illness, and children with serious emotional disturbance.
  • Assesses symptom acuity, functional abilities, and risk factors.
  • Assesses psychiatric symptomatology and risk of harm to self or others.
  • Develops treatment plans to address psychiatric conditions and/or substance abuse/dependence, as well as co-occurring disorders.
  • Utilizes various treatment modalities to select the best method of treatment for client and symptoms.
  • Completes an accurate 5-Axis diagnosis based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Fifth Edition (DSM-5-TR).
  • Develops an evaluation of what is causing a crisis situation and develop a plan of safety, which includes alternative resources to hospitalization.
  • Utilizes knowledge of Duty to Warn, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Elder Abuse reporting laws.
  • Complete the level of functioning screenings for consumers either assigned to the case load or to another’s as back up, as well as any phone screens thru Access.
  • Develop a Person-Centered Plan (PCP) for registered consumers assigned to the caseload based on short term treatment, admission, length of stay, discharge and follow up standards.
  • Behavior Treatment Committee (BTC) and Peer Reviews are coordinated and integrated with this process.
  • Complete all initial paperwork when assigned.
  • Monitor implementation of the Person-Centered Plan for each assigned consumer.
  • Monitor each consumer’s progress relative to the PCP and length of stay authorization.
  • Complete status reviews, discharge summaries and required outcome assessments as established by MDHHS.
  • Coordinate services between all involved Authority personnel and other agencies as defined by the established Person-Centered Plan.
  • Maintain complete and detailed case records and service activity documentation consistent with MDHHS standards, Authority procedures and requirements of third-party payor sources assuring revenue generation at levels which meet or exceed revenue targets established for the program.
  • To summarize caseload needs assessment and provide summary to the Program Director/Supervisor at regularly scheduled supervision meetings.
  • Maintain individual credentials that meet licensing standards and participate in education and training as necessary to maintain current competency(s) in skill areas essential for implementing job duties and responsibilities.
  • Follows oral and written direction completing tasks as assigned by due dates.
  • Maintains working knowledge of software applications used in performance of daily duties.
  • Complies with and maintains competence in MDHHS, Joint Commission and CMHA standards, policies, procedures and requirements of all applicable funding sources.
  • Complies with State MDHHS and MCMHA Board policies, standards and procedures related to Recipient Rights.
  • Maintain competence in HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Understands and adheres to MCMHA's compliance standards as they appear in MCMHA’s, Management of Information, Recipient Rights, Performance Improvement, Administration, Human Resources, Environment and Provision of Care Policies.
  • Interacts appropriately with Managers and peers.
  • Performs required duties with an awareness of impact upon the Authority structure as a whole.
  • Works as a Team Player within the entire Authority Structure.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and MCMHA regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
