About The Position

ThriveKids Student Wellness is a community-based program at Children’s Hospital New Orleans that partners with schools to improve healthcare and academic outcomes for students by expanding access to healthcare services. This role involves staffing schools with healthcare professionals and providing direct patient care. The individual will work as a Mental Health Therapist on the ThriveKids Team, serving as a full-time employee of Children’s Hospital New Orleans. Hours may fluctuate based on patient needs. The therapist will support the mission, vision, and core values of Children's Hospital and ThriveKids Student Wellness Project, with access to specialty and behavioral health services. Responsibilities include completing psychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations, developing treatment plans, providing psychotherapy, and other billable services. All documentation will be completed in the electronic medical record in a timely manner. The therapist will keep family members and referral sources informed of the treatment process as permitted by patient consent. This role may also involve Care Coordination for patients requiring specialized care and referrals to appropriate resources. Clinical Supervision of unlicensed staff may be required. This position offers career development opportunities within Children’s Hospital New Orleans. The work location can be remote, hybrid, at a school, or at Children's Hospital, and will involve telehealth service delivery.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school in Social Work or Mental Heath Counseling.
  • Licensed in the State of Louisiana.
  • Participation in appropriate continuing education, annual education requirements, and to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities.
  • 2 years of progressively increasing experience in a clinical setting.
  • Previous hospital/school experience; student crisis intervention; know-how for navigating community partnerships with governmental agencies, community programs, health care providers, or educational institutions.
  • Experience or training in providing services to children, adolescents, and families.
  • Excellent skills in communication.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Clinical knowledge of and ability to work with a variety of psychosocial issues of a school age, adolescent, and young adult population.

Responsibilities
