This position assists with the admission process of patients in the Oncology department, which may include patient orientation, obtaining vital signs and measurements, documenting information, and relaying relevant information to the nurse. The role involves assembling and maintaining patient records, transcribing orders, entering patient charges, and assisting in collecting research data. Responsibilities also include handling telephone calls, scheduling patients, delivering patient care according to standards, and reinforcing nurse's teaching. The role requires greeting patients and families, providing directions and information, and breaking down charts after patient dismissal. Additionally, the position involves managing mail, maintaining a clean work environment, inventorying and restocking supplies, storing linens, cleaning equipment, and transporting specimens, supplies, and medications. The role also includes assisting with procedures, performing specimen collection (including venipuncture), verifying test information and patient identification, and transporting patients. Responding to patient and family requests in a timely manner, participating in professional development and hospital committees, and promoting the Hematology/Oncology Clinic through presentations are also key aspects. All activities must comply with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions. The role requires clear communication and support of the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital. Other duties as required will be performed.
