About The Position

The Outpatient Certified Nursing/Medical Assistant is responsible for providing support for pediatric clinic operations. Responsibilities include checking-in patients, assisting providers in clinic, managing patient flow, appointment scheduling/reminders, maintaining clinic supplies and cleanliness, all within their scope of the nursing assistant/medical assistant practice.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED- Required
  • Graduate of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited Medical Assisting program or college and/or: (1) Provide a valid and active Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - CMA; American Medical Technologists (AMT) - RMA; National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) - NCMA; or National Health Care Association (NHA) - CCMA; - Required within 90 days of hire, or (2) Complete the CCMA program with NAH and the National Healthcare Association (NHA) and obtain Medical Assistant Certification within six months from date of hire.
  • An RN BSN degree can be substituted in lieu of the above.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or A valid and active Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - CMA; American Medical Technologists (AMT) - RMA; National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) - NCMA; or National Health Care Association (NHA) - CCMA; - Required within 90 days of hire, or Complete the CCMA program with NAH and the National Healthcare Association (NHA) and obtain Medical Assistant Certification within six months from date of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant - Required
  • An active, unrestricted, Arizona RN license, or valid participating compact license may be substituted in lieu of the CNA or MA Certification, however, the scope of practice will be limited to that outlined in this job description for the CNA/MA responsibilities.
  • BLS certification- Required within 90 days from date of hire
  • Fingerprint Clearance application number - Required upon date of hire; and Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required within 30 days from date of hire
  • Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year experience in area of specialty- Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes required review of patient information prior to appointment. This can include: acquisition and review of hospital notes, immunization records, patient consents, test results, and any required additional patient information.
  • Participates in general care coordination of the patient within their scope of practice. This can include: arranging referrals, assisting patients with scheduling future/follow-up appointments, and helping to arrange ancillary services for the patient prescribed by their care team.
  • Accurately completes patient check-in process per clinic policy. This includes: measuring and recording vitals, reviewing any medication or food allergies, and relaying any pertinent patient information to the provider.
  • Implements treatment per the patient's plan of care.
  • Documents in EMR to accurately reflect a logical flow between data collected, action taken, and patient response to the action.
  • Presents information clearly and in a manner appropriate to the level of patient and family understanding.
  • Accurately records patient responses to treatment.
  • Acts as a resource person to peers within the department.
  • Responsible for general maintenance of clinic space, which includes stocking, cleaning and organizing patient exam rooms and workstations.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Meets productivity goals according to departmental standards in accordance with attending 75% of department monthly meetings in a 12-month period.
  • Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policy and procedures.
  • Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
  • Completes charges in a timely manner and according to proper procedures.
  • Responds to new orders promptly in compliance with department policy.
