About The Position

Akicita Federal is hiring Certified Nursing Assistants to deliver direct patient care to the Jicarilla Apache community through the Indian Health Service's Jicarilla Service Unit in Dulce, NM. This is meaningful, hands-on clinical work supporting a federally recognized tribal community in a close-knit healthcare setting. Four positions are available, offering a stable schedule and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in an underserved rural community.

Requirements

  • Current, valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) by American Heart Association
  • Demonstrated experience providing hands-on direct patient care in a clinical or residential healthcare setting
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the role including lifting, transferring, and assisting patients with mobility
  • Strong observation and communication skills with the ability to report patient status changes to supervising nurses

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a Native American or tribal health clinic, Indian Health Service facility, or similarly rural/frontier healthcare environment
  • Familiarity with federal or government-operated healthcare settings and their documentation and compliance expectations
  • Experience supporting geriatric, pediatric, or chronically ill patient populations in a community health context
  • Bilingual or multicultural communication skills relevant to serving Indigenous communities

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, compassionate personal care to patients including bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility assistance
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs, intake and output, and changes in condition, reporting findings promptly to nursing staff
  • Assist licensed nursing personnel with clinical procedures, treatments, and patient positioning as directed
  • Support patient comfort and dignity by responding to call lights, repositioning patients, and attending to daily living needs
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment in accordance with facility infection control standards
  • Document care activities accurately and in a timely manner in the patient health record
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure continuity and quality of patient care
