About The Position

The Hematology Infusion Department, located in the Falk Building, is responsible for delivering specialized patient care including the administration of chemotherapy and chemotherapy-related IV medications, IV and oral pain management, blood transfusions, IVIG, and other prescribed infusions. This role involves accessing and maintaining IV lines (including PICC lines and ports), performing venous blood draws and IV phlebotomy, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, and accurately following provider orders. Staff work closely with Vitalent team members while supporting daily operations such as restocking supplies, cleaning procedure rooms, and maintaining departmental task sheets. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail, obtain chemotherapy certification within 30–60 days if not already certified, and comply with all DOH, JCAHO, HIPAA, OSHA, and UPMC policies and protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years nursing experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
  • Preference for ACLS, required within 30 days
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
