The Outage Control Technician is a temporary additional position supporting a refueling outage at Diablo Canyon Power Plant in Avila Beach, California. The next outage is scheduled for April 2027. Successful candidates are expected to start 4–7 weeks before the outage, and the assignment will last approximately 2.5–3 months. The role is an IBEW-represented classification subject to collective bargaining and union dues. The stated 2026 rate is $76.04. Per diem and travel to and from the plant site are paid. The position is within Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s Instrument and Controls Department, which performs maintenance and modifications to plant systems, structures, and components during refueling outages. The technician tests, calibrates, maintains, and installs power plant control, monitoring, alarm, and indicating systems and their components, and may assist plant engineers with performing and evaluating plant tests. Employment is contingent on obtaining and maintaining unescorted access at a commercial nuclear power plant. This includes a background investigation, initial and random drug screening, psychological screening, and passing written tests. The technician must complete radiation worker and department-specific training, work in and around radiation or contamination fields, and attend work as scheduled due to the finite assignment.
