About The Position

The Outage Control Technician is a temporary additional position in Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s Instrument and Controls Department, supporting a refueling outage. The department performs maintenance and modifications to plant systems, structures, and components during refueling outages. The position’s principal duties are testing, calibrating, maintaining, and installing power plant control, monitoring, alarm, and indicating systems and their components. The technician may also assist plant engineers in performing and evaluating plant tests. The next refueling outage is scheduled for April 2027. Successful candidates would start approximately 4–7 weeks before the outage, and the assignment is expected to last about 2.5–3 months. The position is an IBEW-represented classification subject to collective bargaining and union dues. The stated 2026 rate is $76.04. Per diem and travel to and from the plant site are paid. Employment is contingent on obtaining and maintaining unescorted access to a commercial nuclear power plant, including passing a background investigation, initial and random drug screens, a psychological screen, and written tests. The technician must read and understand work orders, procedures, drawings, and other technical materials; complete radiation worker and department-specific training; work in and around radiation or contamination fields; and attend work as scheduled. Duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. The physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds; transporting materials on carts weighing up to 500 pounds; bending, stooping, and twisting; climbing stairs and ladders; walking up to five miles per day; working on stationary or swinging scaffolds and at heights up to 250 feet; working in confined spaces and awkward positions; standing for long periods; and wearing and working in a respirator in radioactive, contaminated, or environmentally hazardous plant areas. The listed duties and conditions are not exhaustive, and management may modify or assign duties as necessary.
