About The Position

Kiwassa Neighbourhood House is seeking an Out of School Care Team Lead to support their vision of fostering a welcoming and inclusive community. This role involves creating safe and engaging spaces for preteens aged 10-12, planning and implementing activities, organizing staff, and conducting community outreach to ensure active engagement in programming. The position is 30 hours per week during the school year (6 hours per day, Monday to Friday) and 35 hours per week during Spring and Summer camps.

Requirements

  • Diploma in a related human/social service field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years recent experience working in the childcare/youth sector.
  • Emergency Childcare First Aid or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older as per the Child Care Licensing Regulation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with, support, and relate to children and their caregivers.
  • Proven ability to plan and organize appropriate activities.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning and task facilitation.

  • Collaborative and solution-oriented – good team player (able to lead and follow, as necessary).

Responsibilities

  • Work with the program coordinator to build the preteen program.
  • Plan and implement activities and experiences for individual and group needs of preteens, considering multicultural, inclusive, child-centered, and developmentally appropriate approaches.
  • Organize and maintain necessary program supplies.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the program, ensuring facilities, equipment, guidelines, policies, and standards are met.
  • Support the coordinator with registration and onboarding through Lillio.
  • Work with the Community Schools Team to promote programming and onboard preteens.
  • Build a Preteen panel for consultation and support in program development.
  • Stay updated on new techniques and activities, collaborating with the supervisor to implement innovative and appropriate engagement strategies.
  • Orient, train, monitor, and support program volunteers.
  • Collaborate with team members to create a quality, enriching learning environment for preteens.
  • Strengthen family engagement and improve caregivers' understanding of youth health, safety, and behavior.
  • Maintain relationships with external resources, schools, and KNH staff.
  • Maintain open communication with families regarding attendance, pick-up/drop-off, and behavioral concerns.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive environment for preteens, especially newcomers and those facing systemic barriers, through consistent routines and caring adult relationships.
  • Build a strong sense of belonging and positive identity through daily programming, leadership opportunities, workshops, and mentorship.
  • Strengthen continuity of care from Kiwassa’s Out-of-School Care programs into preteen years.
  • Administer medication and respond to emergencies according to established policies and guidelines.
  • Uphold safety standards as per Kiwassa requirements.
  • Ensure all facility policies and procedures are followed.
  • Implement a solution-oriented approach to barriers.
  • Maintain program and participant records.
  • Provide updates and reporting as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
