About The Position

Out Island Mates lead Out Island Adventure crews throughout the entirety of their seven-day adventure. Out Island mates are responsible for their crew from the moment they arrive until the moment they depart, which includes five days and four nights on primitive Big Munson Island. Mates will facilitate activities such as kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, and canoeing, and serve as a guide for the crew, all while maintaining safety standards and an enthusiastic attitude. They serve as first mates aboard a 45-foot Corinthian and a 28-foot center console. Mates are responsible for mediating conflict, motivating participants, and developing crews' leadership skills. Mates will work in groups of two to five other mates and must be a team player. This application is for the Spring 2027 season.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have current first aid, CPR and AED certifications.
• Must be able to pass a US Coast Guard drug test upon arrival.
• Must be competent swimmers.
• Must be comfortable leading crews in water-based activities.
• Must be hard-working.
• Must be team players.

Responsibilities

• Lead Out Island Adventure crews throughout their seven-day adventure.
• Be responsible for the crew from arrival until departure, including five days and four nights on primitive Big Munson Island.
• Facilitate activities such as kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, and canoeing.
• Serve as a guide for the crew, maintaining safety standards and an enthusiastic attitude.
• Serve as first mates aboard a 45-foot Corinthian and a 28-foot center console.
• Mediate conflict.

• Be comfortable working long hours doing physical activities.
