About The Position

Join a surgical team that supports ear, nose, and throat care for our military community. Evans Army Community Hospital is looking for an Otolaryngology Technician to support surgeons and clinic staff in both the operating room and the ENT clinic. You will scrub in on ENT procedures, prepare patients and equipment, and keep the clinic running smoothly. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a surgical technologist program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES
  • At least 12 months of experience as a surgical services technician within the last 36 months
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to submit a complete qualifying package at least 15 days before placement
  • Meet DoD health requirements before placement
  • Hepatitis B series with a positive titer; MMR and varicella (series or positive titer)
  • Annual influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or QuantiFERON)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as “scrub” assistant to the surgeon in major and minor ear, nose, and throat surgeries and procedures
  • Occasionally serve as first surgical assistant
  • Check operating room setup and arrange supplies and instruments as needed
  • Care for, identify, label, and deliver specimens to pathology
  • Perform point-of-use cleaning for contaminated instruments
  • Screen and check in patients, escort and transport them safely, and record vital signs, medications, and routine intake information
  • Assist with pre- and post-operative care, such as removing nasal packing, splints, and sutures, and redressing and cleaning wounds
  • Prepare and administer routine medications under the supervision of the physician and clinic RN
  • Assist with recovery room or basic nursing duties, monitor patients, and carry out post-operative orders
  • Help identify and manage postoperative complications
  • Provide patient and parent education as requested and order diagnostic labs as required
  • Perform high-level disinfection (HLD) of laryngoscopes following manufacturer instructions and Joint Commission requirements
  • Assemble, operate, and maintain diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and complete routine safety and preventive maintenance checks
  • Support Speech Pathology with laryngoscope setup, stroboscopy, and endoscopic swallowing evaluations
  • Help manage supply inventory and coordinate disposal of expired items
  • Use computer systems for scheduling, radiology and lab results, and other clinic administrative activities
