About The Position

This unpaid Level I occupational therapy internship is available only to students currently enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy program affiliated with Sheppard Pratt or Mosaic Community Services. Students work under the supervision of an occupational therapist or program coordinator and develop clinical and professional skills toward entry-level competency by the end of fieldwork.

Requirements

• Work under the supervision of an occupational therapist or program coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and lead effective occupational therapy groups at the PRP and in the community.
• Complete occupational therapy screenings and assessments and assist with interpretation.
• Complete academic assignments as part of Level I fieldwork and inform the supervisor of needs, plans, and progress.
• Develop increasing competence in the occupational therapy process, including chart review, use of screening tools, interviews and other assessment tools, and synthesis of information to develop occupational therapy plans based on recovery themes, occupational therapy theory, and evidence-based practice.
• Document occupational therapy groups, one-to-one occupational therapy, integrated health, and other reports as requested.
• Collaborate with clients, students, and staff to plan interventions for individual clients, groups, and the program, and to engage clients and orient them to occupational therapy.
• Provide safe and ethical services in all duties, follow agency policies and procedures and the occupational therapy code of ethics, and use sound judgment.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to develop clinical and professional skills and achieve entry-level competency by the end of fieldwork.
• Manage time, work areas, and costs effectively and efficiently to complete daily duties competently and safely.
