About The Position

Moog’s Military Aircraft Group is hiring an on-site OSV Quality Assurance Auditor at its aerospace plant in Torrance, California. The role plans and performs audits under the OSV Process to assess process effectiveness, operator and technician competency, and whether operators can produce conforming parts and maintain authority to inspect their own work. The auditor also supports Business Systems and product audits, production improvement and investigation activities, quality training, and assessment of manufacturing-process risks and variation. The position requires an associate degree in a technological field or qualifying equivalent external technical training, at least two years of experience with precision machines and/or assembly and test processes, and practical knowledge of inspection gages and measuring and test equipment. The role reports to the site Quality Manager according to the posting; the job header separately lists “Manager, Process” under Reporting To.

Requirements

Associate degree in a technological field; successful completion of external technical education and training, such as an apprenticeship, may be evaluated as equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience with precision machines and/or assembly and test processes.
Practical experience and technical knowledge of a wide variety of gages and measuring and test equipment used to inspect precision-machined parts.
Ability to approve new fixturing and tooling and understand and provide guidance on acceptance-test requirements.
Proficiency in the use and understanding of measuring and test equipment.
Experience with audit documentation and presentation.
Familiarity with manufacturing and inspection processes.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the aerospace industry.
AS9100D certification; internal audit experience is a plus.
Experience in assembly and test.
Knowledge of military and government specifications.
Experience with SAP.

Responsibilities

Plan and perform audits in accordance with the OSV Process to assess process effectiveness, operator and technician competency, and operators’ ability to produce conforming parts and maintain authority to inspect their own work.
Assist with Business Systems and product audits as needed.
Sample-inspect parts during audits using inspection techniques and layouts of varying complexity.
Support production management, operators, and engineering disciplines with improvement and investigative activities and help ensure workmanship standards are met.
Provide technical guidance on engineering drawings, work instructions, assembly techniques, nonstandard inspection techniques, and the application of unique gages and test equipment; conduct formal personnel training.
Support analytical and statistical applications by assisting production employees with control charting and identifying potential sources of variation.
Assist in problem-solving activities by evaluating identified nonconformities.
Assist in training operators on Quality procedures and inspection techniques.
Report issues and improvement opportunities to responsible engineers and management.
Assess manufacturing-process risks across people, materials, machines, methods, measurement, and environment.
Investigate unwanted variation in process inputs that affects product uniformity and conformity to Moog engineering specifications.
