About The Position

An orthopedic technician will assist physicians in the application and management of casts and braces, provide instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast, splint, and brace application, and give instruction on proper care of casts, braces, etc to patients. Also provides instructions to rotating medical students, and assists with orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopaedic supplies.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
One year of direct patient care experience
Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Certification

Responsibilities

Provides professional, competent assistance to physicians in the application and management of casts for orthopedic patients.
Educates patients regarding casts, splints, or braces following application.
Collects and records patients' medical history and acquires patients' vital signs.
Advises patients regarding treatment, medication, and specific physician instructions.
Collects lab samples and completes documentation for submission to the lab.
Monitors inventory of and obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in the orthopedic unit.
Performs other duties as assigned.
