About The Position
This is a Locum Tenens position for an Orthopedic Surgeon in Hancock, MI. The role involves providing on-call coverage for the Emergency Department at UP Health System Portage, responding to consults for orthopaedic cases, and performing surgical procedures. The coverage period is from August 18 to December 23, 2026, with an orientation on August 17. The surgeon will handle cases including fractures, sports medicine, and general orthopedics. The facility is a Level III trauma center with a Level III trauma designation. Support staff includes an Orthopedic PA and surgical staff. Specialty backup is available from General Surgery.
Requirements
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE)
- Licensed in MI or IMLC
- MI DEA required
- Hospital Privileges Required

Responsibilities
- Provide on-call coverage for the Emergency Department at UP Health System Portage.
- Respond to ED consults for orthopaedic cases including fractures, sports injuries, and general orthopaedics.
- Perform surgical procedures as needed, including arthroscopy, total joint replacement, and joint revision/repair.
- Collaborate with orthopaedic PAs and surgical staff.
- Participate in orientation and follow facility protocols.
