About The Position

The Office of Unemployment Insurance Division: Investigations/Integrity is seeking to fill multiple vacancies for the ORS Specialist 1/2/3/4 position in East Baton Rouge Parish. Louisiana Works aims to transform lives and drive prosperity by providing individualized solutions and creating new possibilities. The Unemployment Insurance (UI) program offers temporary financial assistance to eligible unemployed workers. This role oversees the UI lifecycle, including employer tax collection, benefit claims processing, fraud prevention, and appeals. The incumbent will conduct unemployment claim reviews within the Integrity Programs section, focusing on preventing improper payments, detecting overpayments and fraud, verifying amounts and intent, collecting overpayments through legal methods, and reporting collection activities. Key competencies include making accurate judgments, managing resources, and thinking critically.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in unemployment insurance, workforce development programs, workers’ compensation, administrative services, or social services; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor’s degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts unemployment insurance integrity investigations to identify improper payments, determine fraud or non-fraud overpayments, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Reviews and analyzes claims, cross-matches, employer protests, audits, and related documentation to verify eligibility, establish overpayments, and recommend case resolutions.
  • Manages and prioritizes investigative caseloads, monitors production and quality standards, and ensures timely and accurate completion of work in accordance with program requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries from claimants, employers, staff, and the public regarding unemployment claims, overpayments, and collections.
  • Participates in appeals hearings to support investigative findings.
  • Assists with reimbursement processing, claims intake, and disaster unemployment assistance operations.
  • Identifies system issues to support process improvements.
