About The Position

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring an Oromo Interpreter to work from home. This role involves using your language skills to improve the lives of limited-English speakers and the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. Support is available from a Senior Language Specialist and Help Desks.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Oromo and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective.
  • Ability to remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
  • Desktop / Laptop Computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS.
  • Tablets (iPadOS or Android) are acceptable.
  • Smartphones (iOS or Android) are also acceptable.
  • High speed Internet connection with no less than 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, Ping value of no more than 300 ms, Jitter value of no more than 30 ms.
  • Must have access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
  • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain in a stationary position in front of a computer the majority of the workday.
  • Must be able to operate company provided software and systems.
  • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
  • Able to lift up to 26 lbs.
  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages - highly preferred.
  • Candidates who are currently employed by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated LanguageLine Solutions business may not be eligible for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Handle calls on demand and render the meaning of conversations between Oromo and English speakers.
  • Break communication barriers in industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.
  • Process information quickly and concisely.
  • Recognize sensitive cultural differences.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Use appropriate terminology and understand common industry procedures and practices.
  • Translate verbally (not written translation).
  • Ensure a quiet and secure home-office environment.
  • Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
  • Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
  • Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met.
  • Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
  • Provide the required company standards of service in a dynamic environment, which may include emotional or stressful calls, extended periods without breaks, or high call volumes.
