About The Position

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The successful Organizational Change Manager is a highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic, emphasis on continuous learning and improvement, and excellent communication and facilitation skills. This role requires high energy and strong passion for teamwork when supporting the people side of change. This position reports to the Manager of Enterprise Change Management within the Office of the General Manager. To support our organization’s mission and cross-functional strategic outcomes, each OCM practitioner on our team is a full spectrum change partner who can flex across enterprise initiatives, business unit needs, and communications/engagement. We are both strategic and hands-on, balancing consistency with tailored support as we execute the roles and responsibilities below.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience: Managing complex organizational change projects, AND Providing actionable, strategic recommendations to executive management, AND Applying change methodology to large, complex organizational environments.
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., organizational development/psychology, public policy, public administration, business administration, or a related field), or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.
  • Current valid state issued driver’s license from any US state to be verified prior to start date. Out of state license holders will be required to obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire.

  • Change management experience across the following delivery areas: connecting change initiatives to the organization’s mission and operational goals, organizational development, business transformation, communications, training, leadership development, connecting multiple change initiatives to an enterprise-wide landscape and mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience presenting to an organization’s senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and engagement across teams and organizational structures, including engagement with all levels of an organization, including executive, management, and front-line staff.
  • Seasoned group facilitator with demonstrated experience managing conflict among diverse stakeholders and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to move easily between leading, supporting, designing, developing, and implementing roles.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively, be self-directed, and hands-on.
  • Demonstrated experience using data and metrics to inform, measure, report out on progress and make necessary course corrections.
  • Prosci Practitioner Certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and evaluate information from multiple sources for OCM scoping, planning, and readiness enablement, including interpreting high-level information, abstracting from low-level information to a general understanding, and evaluating behaviors to perceive the underlying OCM needs of teams.
  • Deliver readiness assessments and stakeholder analyses to quickly and accurately identify strengths, risks, gaps, and mitigation strategies to help individuals move from current to future state of assigned priority initiatives.
  • Develop and execute documented change management strategies and work plans with specific steps and deliverables to improve change readiness and likely adoption rates; beyond the OCM strategy and workplan, typical deliverables may include engagement strategy, readiness trackers, reference/collateral documentation, sponsorship roadmap, etc.
  • Define, collect, and assess meaningful metrics to measure change management progress and sustainment, and identify issues and needed adjustments.
  • Provide guidance and advice to a broad range of department leadership and other stakeholders on how to leverage strategic change management principles; this may include serving as coach on projects with change management leads provided by the business that need additional support directly from OCM team on tools, resources, and best practices.
  • Develop and deliver practical OCM training curriculum for staff and sponsors as appropriate.
  • Contribute to OCM program maturity efforts such as refinement of core program-level materials and templates, presenting on our program to other teams, ensuring that OCM consultants align with our standards for delivery and quality.
  • Provide other special OCM staffing support to the General Manager’s Office as needed.
