About The Position

Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Organ Recovery Coordinator to join their team in the Chattanooga area. This role is crucial in facilitating all aspects of organ donation to save lives. Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs), utilizing their nursing background, oversee the procurement process of organ donation. They collaborate with the clinical team to assess organ compatibility for recipients and expedite the surgical and technical processes for quick and safe organ packaging and transfer for transplant. ORCs work alongside hospital personnel and surgeons to facilitate life-saving organ transplantation. This position offers a higher level of autonomy for critical care nurses to provide a lifeline to those awaiting organ transplants.

Requirements

  • Two plus years prior experience in a critical care setting.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and multitask.
  • Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.
  • Registered Nursing (RN) License
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements
  • The ability to creatively approach marketing and outreach.
  • Must be able to obtain Hospital Badge and EMR Access from all of the DCI Donor Services Hospital partners.
  • New employees must have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by their potential start date or be able to supply proof of vaccination.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patient suitability for organ donation by reviewing medical records and consultation with medical staff.
  • Coordinates organ placement and allocation with transplant programs and surgeons.
  • Coordinates and assists in the surgical recovery of organs and peri-operative management – including logistics such as arranging transportation, ensuring surgical packaging, and preparing lab specimens for shipment.
  • Provides support to donor families and conducts medical/social history interviews.
  • Updates donor information into electronic medical record.
  • Other duties as assigned.
