The Organ Preservationist (OP) serves as the key individual responsible for facilitating the organ recovery process when deceased donor organs become available to transplant candidates. This position provides 24/7 on-call coverage (rotating schedule) for the surgical recovery of donor organs for the heart, kidney, liver, lung and pancreas programs at Froedtert Health and the liver and kidney programs at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The OP has primary responsibility for coordinating and assisting with key aspects of the surgical recovery of organs used for transplantation. The OP provides and maintains a safe environment by complying with regulatory requirements and standards set forth by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and other regulatory agencies. A high degree of independence is expected in executing complex logistical support operations for organ recovery and perfusion.
