About The Position

The Order Entry Pharmacist is a Registered Pharmacist responsible for providing medication to patients of all ages and counseling them and their families on proper medication use. This individual also provides drug information to Physicians and medical center staff. Key responsibilities include preparing medication orders for inpatients and outpatients, preparing IV, IVPB, TPN, and specialty admixtures, refilling medication carts, and distributing controlled substances while maintaining accurate records and stock levels. The role involves clinical skills such as monitoring patient records, ensuring appropriate drug and dose for age or organ function, initiating interventions with nurses and physicians, and documenting outcomes. The pharmacist is expected to provide responsible and accountable pharmaceutical care by maintaining confidentiality, completing accurate documentation, adhering to department policies and procedures, and demonstrating awareness of state and federal pharmacy laws. Collaboration is essential, requiring effective communication, adherence to schedules, efficient time utilization, and supporting colleagues. Leadership principles include assisting with department responsibilities, being responsive to inquiries, anticipating needs, and assisting in the orientation and training of new employees. Professional growth is encouraged through continuing education, meetings, and staying current with literature. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Pharm D from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Current valid Florida Pharmacist license or intern permit required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medication orders for inpatients and outpatients appropriately, accurately and within time standard.
  • Prepares IV, IVPB, TPN and specialty admixtures according to standard.
  • Refills medication carts accurately and within time standard.
  • Distributes controlled substances maintaining appropriate records and stock levels.
  • Prepares stock and specialized medications as required.
  • Maintains appropriate stock levels.
  • Monitors appropriate information from patient record in the daily practice of pharmacy.
  • Ensures drug and dose are appropriate for age or compromised renal or liver function.
  • Initiates intervention with nurse and/or physician as necessary.
  • Documents outcomes of pharmacist interventions.
  • Communicates drug and formulary information effectively.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Completes documentation with accuracy on a timely basis.
  • Uses Pharmacy department policy and procedures as guidance.
  • Demonstrates awareness of state and federal laws related to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Uses appropriate and effective communication skills.
  • Reports to work as scheduled and conforms to working hours.
  • Utilizes time effectively to complete other duties and support peers and colleagues.
  • Assists with department responsibilities.
  • Responsive to inquiries.
  • Anticipates needs and prepares accordingly.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Attends continuing education programs, meetings and stays current with literature.
  • Attends in-service and staff meetings.
