Requirements

  • Moderate capability for reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Moderate capability for using measuring equipment (tape measure, framing square, straight edge).
  • Moderate capability for using shop measuring equipment, engineering drawings and cutting equipment to cut stock (tubing, angle iron, channel iron, flat bar, etc.) for simple welded miscellaneous assemblies and frame assemblies.
  • Moderate capability for fabricating simple miscellaneous welded assemblies.
  • Applies basic analytical skills or scientific methods or operational processes to perform straightforward activities.
  • Understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with others.
  • Uses standard operating procedures or scientific methods to guide own work and solve standard problems.
  • Uses communication skills to exchange information.
  • This is a physically demanding position that often requires standing for extended periods of time, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and the use of hand and power tools.
  • This position requires the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to welding helmets, hand shields, goggles, respirators, fire/flame resistant clothing and aprons, and gloves.
  • Additional PPE will be required for positions involving work in a clean room environment.

Responsibilities

  • Novice welder with the capability of operating TIG ; MIG; and Oxy Acetylene welding equipment.
  • Operates common shop tools such as grinders, sanders and hydraulic straightening equipment.
  • Reads and understands engineering drawings.
  • Uses measuring equipment (tape measure, framing square, straight edge).
  • Uses shop measuring equipment, engineering drawings and cutting equipment to cut stock (tubing, angle iron, channel iron, flat bar, etc.) for simple welded miscellaneous assemblies and frame assemblies.
  • Fabricates simple miscellaneous welded assemblies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures proper handling of tools, equipment, and stock to prevent loss.
  • Conforms to departmental safety requirements.
