About The Position

Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery provides oral and maxillofacial surgical care throughout the Greater Richmond Area. The Oral Surgery Assistant joins a team focused on exceptional patient care in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that emphasizes purposeful work, individual accountability, and a positive attitude. The assistant supports patients and the surgeon throughout evaluations, surgeries, and postoperative visits, helping ensure procedures run successfully and patients feel comfortable.

Requirements

• At least one year of dental assisting or surgery technical experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles.
• Understanding of HIPAA.
• Radiology certification.
• Familiarity with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to assist with sedated patients.
• Ability to stand and bend for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

• Oral and maxillofacial surgery experience.
• CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide empathetic patient care before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist the surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and postoperative visits.
• Take digital X-rays and models.
• Accurately document patient charts during evaluations, surgical procedures, and postoperative appointments.
• Prepare surgical trays and evaluation and surgical rooms for procedures.
• Maintain sterilization of instruments, laboratories, and treatment rooms.
• Complete clinical and pharmacy logs according to practice standards.
