About The Position

Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery is seeking an Oral Surgery Assistant to support oral and maxillofacial surgical care throughout the Greater Richmond Area. The role works with surgeons and patients in a fast-paced environment, providing care before, during, and after procedures and helping ensure surgeries are successful and patients feel comfortable. The assistant supports evaluations, surgeries, and postoperative visits; prepares clinical spaces and instruments; and maintains accurate documentation and required logs.

Requirements

At least one year of dental assisting or surgery technical experience.
Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles.
Understanding of HIPAA.
Radiology certification.
Familiarity with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to assist with sedated patients.
Ability to stand and bend for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

Oral and maxillofacial surgery experience.
CPR certification.

Responsibilities

Provide empathetic patient care before, during, and after procedures.
Assist the surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and postoperative visits.
Take digital X-rays and models.
Accurately document patient charts during evaluations, surgical procedures, and postoperative appointments.
Prepare surgical trays and evaluation and surgical rooms for procedures.
Maintain sterilization of instruments, laboratories, and treatment rooms.
Complete clinical and pharmacy logs according to practice standards.
