The Perioperative Acute Care Manager is a registered nurse who, using critical thinking skills, coordinates the clinical activities within a specific unit and collaborates with other members of the health care team. She/he directly and indirectly supervises the care rendered by ancillary staff. This role focuses on unit-based performance improvement and serves as a resource instructor for competency assessment specific to units. The manager facilitates patient safety goals, implements, collects, and measures PI performance, and reviews all nursing documentation for accuracy. Responsibilities also include reviewing department-specific CDC guidelines, ensuring 100% medication reconciliation, and implementing educational in-services for all outpatient and recovery areas. The manager assists with staff scheduling and provides clinical support on the unit when needed, particularly during the absence of the Assistant Director. This position acts as a role model to enhance clinical practice excellence and support evidence-based programs.
