About The Position

Contact Lens Gallery & Designer Eyewear in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking an Optometrist to provide maternity leave coverage beginning in September 2026 through the end of the year. This opportunity is open to both new graduates and experienced professionals who are dedicated to helping patients see their world more clearly while improving and preserving the precious gift of sight. For the right candidate, this temporary role may also offer the potential to transition into a permanent associate position with an established private practice where the possibilities are endless. Contact Lens Gallery & Designer Eyewear is an established Albuquerque private practice with deep roots in the community, originally founded more than 30 years ago and continuing its legacy under current ownership since 2018. The practice is known for delivering personalized primary eye care and contact lens services in a welcoming, patient-focused environment, making it an excellent opportunity for an Optometrist who values relationship-based care and wants to contribute to a long-standing, trusted practice.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry school
  • Current unrestricted New Mexico optometry license
  • Current DEA registration
  • Compassionate, patient-focused professional with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of care
  • Genuine commitment to delivering an excellent patient experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in primary care optometry
  • Experience with contact lenses
  • Collaborative approach to working with opticians, technicians, and administrative staff

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations
  • Diagnose and manage ocular disease
  • Prescribe glasses and contact lenses
  • Perform contact lens fittings and follow-up care
  • Educate patients on eye health
  • Maintain accurate clinical records
  • Deliver a smooth, high-quality patient experience
  • Utilize modern technology, including Optos/widefield retinal imaging, a digital refractor, an automated refractor/keratometer, an automatic lensometer, and EHR/practice management software.
