About The Position

UC Irvine's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology are seeking an Optometrist to join their team. This role involves collaborative care with the Cornea Service in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of primary anterior segment diseases. The optometrist will evaluate, diagnose, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye and associated structures, as well as recognize systemic conditions that may affect ocular health. This position is located at UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute – Brea and is a 50% appointment.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
  • Thorough knowledge of eye diseases diagnosis.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate findings of examination to patients.
  • Requires strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Position must be able to work with diverse client group.
  • Position must be able to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff members.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner with staff, faculty, and members of the health care community across the campus.
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough professional skills in delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic services to patients.
  • Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school / college of optometry.
  • Licensure by the California State Board of Optometry.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye and associated structures.
  • Recognize systemic conditions that may affect ocular health.
  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations and screening assessments to evaluate visual function, identify ocular abnormalities, and assess anterior segment conditions.
  • Diagnose ocular conditions and prescribe appropriate treatment to preserve or restore vision.
  • Obtain, analyze, and document relevant clinical history and examination findings.
  • Provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff members.
  • Provide patient education regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and chronic management of anterior segment conditions, including cataract and dry eye disease.
