Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with patients and other employees
  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English in a clear and concise manner
  • Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the area of assignment
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection-control standards
  • Eligible to work in the US

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in a related field (e.g., Optometric Assisting) preferred
  • Previous clinical experience in an eye-care or outpatient setting preferred
  • Current Optometric Technician/Optometric Assistant certification preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms and ensure all diagnostic equipment is clean, calibrated, and stocked.
  • Obtain and document patient histories, visual-acuity results, and pre-testing data in the EMR.
  • Perform routine pre-tests (autorefraction, keratometry, tonometry, slit-lamp imaging, visual fields).
  • Assist the optometrist during examinations—position patients, handle lenses, and operate imaging devices.
  • Educate patients on eyewear care, contact-lens use, and medication instructions.
  • Process and transmit prescriptions to pharmacies or optical dispensaries.
  • Manage inventory of lenses, frames, contacts, medications, and disposables.
  • Respond to patient calls, schedule follow-ups, and address basic inquiries.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and all legal/ethical standards.
