About The Position

The Optometric Technician supports efficient patient flow and assists the optometrist by conducting preliminary screenings and tests before the doctor’s examination. The position helps the optometrist provide quality care through vision testing and patient support. Optical experience and certification are not required; training is provided. The technician also helps maintain a professional doctor’s office and pretest room and ensures equipment is properly maintained.

Responsibilities

Ensure high-quality patient care.
Maintain a professional atmosphere and appearance in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
Explain preliminary examinations to patients.
Complete necessary paperwork and perform testing before the doctor’s examination.
Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
Perform exam pre-screening.
Carefully review prescriptions and patient information and identify special needs.
Consult with the optician, doctor, or retail management when necessary.
Ensure the doctor’s and pretest equipment are properly maintained.
