Options Counselor - VDC Program - Newport News
About The Position
Peninsula Agency on Aging is seeking an Options Counselor for its Veteran’s Directed Care (VDC) Program. The role provides case management and service coordination for eligible clients. The counselor advises veterans and/or their caregivers about services and resources that support aging in place, screens and assesses clients, provides options counseling, and develops comprehensive plans of care or service plans for veterans. The organization supports the independence and quality of life of Peninsula residents, primarily those aged 60 and over, by advocating, arranging, or providing vital human services. Staff are expected to model empathy and compassion, reliability, ability, respect for all, and kind communication. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for 40 hours per week, in Newport News.
Requirements
- Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, human services, or a related field.
- Experience working with seniors and/or disabled adults.
- Experience in case management.
- Excellent interviewing, oral communication, and written communication skills.
- Effective use of computers, software, and mobile technology.
- Ability to model the organization’s values.
- Must be vaccinated for COVID-19.
