About The Position

Assist patients in the fitting, adjusting, and repair of eyewear as an apprentice under the supervision of a licensed Optician or Optometrist. Dispense finished optical products. Implement billing policies and procedures, interviewing and counseling patients in eye care financial matters. Maintain accurate accounting records, submit required financial and service reports in a timely, accurate manner. Uphold the organization’s vision, mission, and corporate values. Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, code of conduct, and work rules.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of typical office technologies such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and typical office software.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year(s) working in an office setting
  • Register as an apprentice with the State of Alaska Department of Labor within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Optician License or equivalent certification for promotion within 1 year of hire, or within four (4) ABO exam cycles following completion of 1800 hours as an apprentice

Responsibilities

  • Take patient measurements such as inter-pupil distance, multi-focal lens placements for the purpose of fitting eye wear.
  • Educate and assist patients in the insertion, removal and proper care of contact lenses.
  • Assist patients in selecting and proper fitting of eye wear in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Obtain all required patient information to complete patient records.
  • Accurately maintain current and complete records.
  • Assist patients in identifying third-party sources of payment for eye care needs.
  • Accurately complete billing sheets with correct fees for service and materials.
  • Submits billing sheets to the Billing department in a timely manner.
  • Interpret prescriptions, order eyewear from lab, adjust and repair eyewear.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
