About The Position

The Optician 2 helps customers find eyeglasses and contact lenses that best match each patient while providing high-quality care. The role identifies patients’ reasons for visiting and lifestyle needs, then recommends eyewear based on the optometrist’s prescription. It supports patient satisfaction and retention through attentive service, eyewear selection and fitting, accurate order processing, and clear communication.

Requirements

• One to two years of experience in a related field.
• If required by the state, applicable state licensure or certification as an optician by a nationally recognized optician association.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks successfully in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and respond to calls and inquiries.
• Effective written communication skills to document customer situations and prepare letters confirming agreements.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask relevant questions to identify customer needs.
• Proven problem-solving, negotiating, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to use discretion and judgment when applying customer and call-handling guidelines.
• Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with customers simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Determine the reason for each patient’s visit, identify lifestyle needs, and recommend eyewear in accordance with the optometrist’s prescription.
• Attract and retain customers by providing exceptional service and fostering patient satisfaction.
• Help customers select frames and coordinate frame choices with optical measurements and prescriptions.
• Recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames based on customers’ needs, occupations, habits, and facial features.
• Take measurements, adjust or troubleshoot eyewear, and dispense eyewear.
• Provide accurate pricing and realistic delivery-time estimates.
• Communicate clearly and enthusiastically with patients and build positive relationships with team members.
• Clean and merchandise displays daily.
• Assist with insurance billing and order processing.
• Document patient communications in the practice software system.
• Work on special projects and perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
