About The Position

This 12-week internship focuses on improving the flow and use of upstream optical measurement data for Meta mixed-reality hardware. The team supports approximately 80 instruments and factory stations across contract manufacturers in Asia, display vendors, and labs in Sunnyvale and Redmond. These stations generate about 1.3 billion rows of test data, but a substantial share of upstream quality data does not currently reach the team’s pipeline. The intern will help address this gap by integrating offline measurements, developing an AI-enabled instrument calibration tracking system, and building analytics for production test data.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, and comfort learning the other.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience querying a relational or columnar data store.
  • Foundation in statistics and data modeling, including distributions, hypothesis testing, regression, and fitting and judging a model against held-out data.
  • Experience building something other people used, such as a tool, pipeline, dashboard, model, or library; coursework counts if the artifact was real.
  • Ability to explain a technical result and level of confidence to someone who does not share the candidate’s background.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Intent to return to a full-time degree program after completion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Predictive modeling and time-series analysis, including forecasting, trend and change-point detection, anomaly or drift detection, and back-testing a model before trusting it.
  • Statistical process control and measurement systems analysis, including Cpk, control charts, Gauge R&R, and station-to-station correlation.
  • Data modeling and pipelines, including warehouse schema design and distributed processing (Spark, Presto, Hive, or equivalent) with ETL or pipeline orchestration.
  • Full-stack web development for data products, including React/Next.js with TypeScript, server-side APIs (REST or GraphQL), and scheduled jobs.
  • Building with LLMs, including agents, tool use, retrieval, or evaluation.
  • Testing and validating data products, including automated checks that displayed numbers match source data and detection of silent regressions.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, test, or instrumentation data and related issues such as inconsistent station naming, missing metadata, and silent schema drift.
  • Interest in optics or imaging; useful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build automated ingestion paths and pipeline schemas to integrate previously offline lab and bench measurement data.
  • Develop an AI agent and system of record to track instrument certification, trigger automated maintenance alerts, and coordinate service scheduling.
  • Implement automated analytics for measurement system analysis (Gauge R&R), station-to-station correlation, and drift detection across large-scale production test data.
